Poquoson Parks and Recreation Sponsors Youth Athletic Leagues annually, for Fall Youth Soccer, Spring Youth Soccer, Spring Youth Volleyball Leagues; Fall Youth Volleyball  and Winter Youth Basketball League.

Fall 2018 Soccer

is now only accepting a waitlist, with Late fee.
Cost is $65.00 per player for residents. $5.00 sibling discount. $75.00 non-residents.
Ages groups are:
U7  ages 5 and 6
U9 ages 7 and 8
U11 ages 9 and 10
U13 ages 11 and 12
U16 ages 13, 14, and 15.
Deadline is August 24, 2018.
Youngest players must be at least entering Kindergarten in the Fall of 2018.  (Must be 5 as of 9/30/18)


Kickstart Soccer


Must be age 4 by September 1, 2018
Kickstart is a program designed for the soccer beginner player. This is the basic introduction to the game of soccer. It is not a soccer league, but a 5 week instruction & play/skill period for 45 minutes each week.
Cost: $55 per child. No sibling discount; additional $10 for non-residents.
Registration is on a first come, first served basis.
Dates: September 12, 19, 26, October 3 & 10

Pixie Stix Field Hockey


Field Hockey for beginners! Ages 5-7 Girls.
4:00-4:45pm Dates: September 16, 23, 30,
& October 7
This program is designed to teach introductory field hockey skills for young players. Learn proper techniques for stick maneuvers, teamwork, strategies of the game and to just have fun.
Note: Must be 5 by the start of the program.
Registration for each new PIXIE player includes a correctly sized stick, a ball and a shirt.
Returning players will receive a ball and shirt only.
Instructor: Darcey Chiappazzi, Varsity Field Hockey Coach. Cost: $60 per player
Returning Pixie Players Cost: $40
All players must play with a mouth guard & shin guards each session. Parents provide this equipment.
Additional non-resident fee of $10 per player.
No sibling discount.
Program #106 Player minimum to hold program is 12.

Fall Field Hockey Play and Skills Clinic

Grades 2-8 skill stations and

Youth Volleyball League


Ages 9-13 (Must be age 9 by October 1, 2018)
Learn the fundamentals of the game of volleyball, while enjoying basic game play experience. All
practices in Poquoson. Minimum of 24 players must register to run league & instruction.
Players who have played JV are not eligible
to participate in recreation league.
Specific practice and game times will be announced based on gym availability. Season runs from
late October to Holiday Break in December.
10 games.
Late fee of $15 applies after registration deadline.
Cost per player: $65
Non-resident: $75
Deadline to register is October 12.
A wait-list will be maintained if we are
able to accommodate late registration.

Hoop It Up Basketball Ages 4-6


Together parent and child will learn passing, dribbling, and shooting skills. This program is not a league
experience but an interactive skills program designed to teach the skills of basketball using fun games. Each player receives a junior basketball as part of the program. Open to boys and girls. Each player needs a parent present at each session ready to participate.

Run with the Bulls Kids Running Program


Kids are natural runners, but whether they are running with you or in an event,
they require special care at every step of their development. This eight week program
consists of education in running form, pace, cadence as well as healthy habits, nutrition,
attire, injury prevention, and good sportsmanship. This program is non-competitive,
promoting pride in accomplishment and personal improvement at any level. Each week
the group will meet for approx. 60 minutes. Time of meeting increases as kids increase their distance. Required equipment for participation is a pair of comfortable running shoes. No exceptions on shoes. Meets mostly
Wednesdays, starting September 26 for 8 weeks thru November 14. Alternate night due to Halloween will be
Tuesday or weather make up needs.

Youth Basketball League


Season Runs Early December 2018–Early March 2019
Boys and Girls Ages 6-18
Registration Deadline: NOVEMBER 16, 2018 Program #300
Registration Fee $80 Residents/ $90 Non-residents
Players MUST REGISTER by the deadline to be guaranteed a spot for team placement.
Players who sign up late are not guaranteed placement & will be put on a waiting list until a spot is available.
A late fee of $15.00 per child will be charged after November 16, 2018

All players will be assigned teams through a placement and evaluation process. Attendance at this evaluation
program is critical. Parents will be notified of the evaluation times following registration.
Volunteer coaches are needed for the league in all age divisions. Coaches may only have 1 assistant per team.

Players will be taken first come, first paid, as they register. Participation numbers are limited to the number of coaches available, and available gym space. The season runs from mid-December thru early March.

Games begin in early January. Practices begin in early December following evaluations and team placement.
Coaches will set practice times for teams. Practice nights and time requests will not be considered for team
placement. Requests for specific practice times and/or coaches will not be honored.
No special request for team placements are accepted- (carpools, friends, coaches, etc.)

Age Divisions within the League:
HOT SHOTS: Ages 6, 7 & 8 co-ed not yet 9 as of March 1, 2019. (Lowered hoops)
(Minimum age –must be 6 by 3/1/19; no younger players accepted)
Ages 9 & 10 not yet 11 as of March 1, 2019 Boys & Girls
Ages 11 & 12 not yet 13 as of March 1, 2019 Boys & Girls
Ages 13 & 14 not yet 15 as of March 1, 2019 Boys & Girls
Ages 15 thru those in 12th grade at Poquoson High School (with high school playing eligibility remaining)

*JV and Varsity High School basketball players are not permitted to play in the recreation basketball league.
To play above your respective age division: Players may move up an age division only at the request of the parent. To play above your appropriate age group, an Age Waiver must be completed at the time of registration. You may only play above your age group by one year. There are no exceptions to this rule.
No player may play below their respective age division-unless there are special accommodations requested.

In order to conduct each age division, a minimum number of participants must enroll on time. Each age division is not guaranteed and holding divisions is based on enrollment numbers. No call-in registration is accepted. No registration is complete until the registration form is received and fee is paid in full.
All registrations are taken at Poquoson Community Recreation. Registration forms and procedures are available within this guide, on our website, or at the Community Recreation Office.
Cost per player: $80, non-resident: $90 ($5 discount for siblings).
No refunds for Basketball will be granted for any reason after December 1, 2018.
Note: Late registration after December 1 will not be available.
