The City provides for most of its insurance through the Virginia Municipal League (VML) Pool. In 1998, the City earned the Safety Award from the VML pool based on loss ratios less than 5%, claims frequency below 25%, risk management attitude and commitment, panel of physicians use and development and claims reporting time.
