Fire Training
Training Coordinator, Deputy Chief Michael Bryant
The City of Poquoson Fire/Rescue Training Division is responsible for the training of new recruits as well as our employees' and volunteer staff certification levels. These levels include Firefighter I and II, Emergency Medical Technicians, Intermediate and Paramedic. In addition, the training division provides CPR Certification to our staff as well as the general public. The Training Staff maintains an active public affairs role for the department through public speaking and citizen involvement through course advertisement.
This department has a long history of providing the best training for staff personnel and the public at large. The size of the department mandates that we conduct most of our training for the Fire Service as well as Emergency Medical Services in house. This keeps our personnel within the city limits to respond if a situation occurs. We do this because we feel the citizens deserve the best service possible.
Due to the political climate for the environment and rising gas prices, the hybrid vehicle sales are on the rise. With this in mind first responders have been challenged with special dangers. Through training and education that results in familiarization on the design, features, and operations of the gasoline-electric hybrid vehicles, responders can take positive steps to ensure their safety as well as maintaining a manageable and predictable incident.
