Solid Waste Disposal:
Poquoson uses City issued 35 gallon and 65 gallon garbage containers and green plastic bags bearing the City seal for the collection of weekly garbage. Residents are given a choice of container sizes and can pick which garbage plan they want by visiting the Solid Waste Billing page or calling the Finance Department at 868-3030.
Poquoson residents may also use special green plastic bags bearing the City seal for garbage that will not fit in trash containers. They are also available for residents of townhouses and those who live on lanes longer than 300 feet. The bags are available at Farm Fresh, Food Lion, Poquoson Pharmacy, 7-11, Taylor’s Do-It Center and Back River Market. The bags are $1.75 each and are sold in packages of five for $8.75. Filled green garbage bags can weigh no more the 50 lbs. and can be placed next to the garbage container for pickup. Bags that are too heavy will be rejected for pick up. For the day of your pickup, call 868-3598. Garbage collection for the following holidays and all days following the holiday will be one (1) day later than scheduled unless otherwise advertised: New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Container/Bags must be placed curbside by 7:00 AM. If you have any question or problems with this service, please call 868-3598.
