If you are an American Citizen, registered to vote in the City of Poquoson, VA and would like to serve on one of the boards/commissions listed below, please download a Board Bank Application complete and submit to the City Manager's Office at 500 City Hall Ave., Poquoson, VA 23662 or you may submit your resume with cover letter requesting consideration for a specific board(s)/commission(s) and submit as previously mentioned.

| Planning Commission | Meets the 3rd Monday of each month at 7 p.m. except for Dec. - Feb. | To promote the orderly development of the locality and its environs. To serve in an advisory capacity to the City Council relative to development requests and development ordinances. No training is required; however, Commissioners are encouraged to attend training sessions to obtain their certification. |
| Economic Development Authority | Meets the 1st Friday of each month at 8 a.m. | To pursue & achieve the economic development goals set forth in the City's Comprehensive Plan and to promote good development and business retention to enhance the quality of life for all citizens. |
| Wetlands Board | Meets the 3rd Wed. of each month at 7 p.m. | Charged with reviewing applications & rendering decisions for activities proposed to take place in jurisdictional tidal areas within the City. No training is required; however, Board Members are encouraged to attend ongoing workshops by VIMS. |
| Architectural Review Board | Meets the 1st Mon. of each month at 5 p.m. | Charged with reviewing applications & rendering decisions for activities proposed to take place in jurisdictional tidal areas within the City. No training is required; however, Board Members are encouraged to attend ongoing workshops by VIMS. |
| Colonial Behavioral Health | Meets the 1st Tues. of each month, 4-6 p.m. | To facilitate opportunities for recovery & resiliency to individuals & families affected by mental illness, intellectual disabilities & substance use disorders. |
| Parks & Recreation Advisory Board | Meets the 1st Wed. of each month at 5:30 p.m. | Serves as a liaison between the Parks Director, Council & the citizens; consults & advises the City Admin. & Council on matters affecting recreational policies, programs, etc. |
| School Board | Meets the 3rd Tues. of each month at 6 p.m. | Constitutional officers of the State of Virginia who are responsible for the supervision of schools. |
| Peninsula Agency on Aging | Meets every other month, 3rd Wed. at 9 a.m. | Provides services, facilities, & social events for the senior citizens of the community. |
| Board of Equalization | At advertised dates & times following each new City assessment | Reviews appeals relating to the assessment of real property. |
| Board of Zoning Appeals | Meets the 3rd Wed. of each month at 6:30 p.m. | Reviews variance applications & renders decisions for activities that do not conform to the zoning requirements or would take place within 100 feet of a tidal wetland. No training is required, but Members are encouraged to attend certification classes. |
| Library Advisory Board | Meets every other month, 2nd Wed. at 7 p.m. (starting in Jan.) | Advises the City Manager and City Librarian in matters pertaining to the operation of the Library. |
| Thomas Nelson Board | Meets quarterly (starting in Jan.) on 4th Wed., 5:45 p.m. | Represents Poquoson in decisions made at the college that would affect our community. |
| Social Services Board | Meets the 3rd Wed. of each month at 9 a.m. | Reviews & approves application for welfare recipients & establishes policies for the operation of the York County/Poquoson Social Services office. |
| Board of Adjustments & Appeals | Meets on an as-needed basis. |
Reviews appeals relating to building standards & codes.
