Larcenies from Vehicles Occur Overnight
LARCENIES FROM VEHICLES OCCUR OVERNIGHT
February 15, 2012 – The Poquoson Police Department is asking for help in solving a string of larcenies that occurred sometime between the hours of 9:00 p.m. on February 14, 2012 and 4:00 a.m. on February 15, 2012. During that time, an unknown person or persons did unlawfully enter and ransack at least 15 parked vehicles. All of the vehicles were parked on residential streets in the Hunts Neck Road corridor to include Hansom Drive, Wendell Circle, Wilson Drive, Roberts Landing and Johns Landing Circle. The suspect or suspects committed larceny by removing various items of value to include a credit card, currency, GPS devices, Xbox games and house wares. Additional reports are pending further information at this time. Based on a preliminary review of the incident reports taken so far, all of the vehicles involved were unlocked at the time of entry.
Residents can reduce their chances of being a victim of similar crimes by taking the following steps to deter criminal activity.
- Store all of your valuables in your home and not in your car.
- Keep your cars locked at all times
- Trim trees and bushes around the front of your home to allow officers patrolling your neighborhood to have a clear view of your driveway. This will also eliminate places for criminals to hide.
- Increase exterior lighting around your home.
- Install motion sensor activated lights over your garage door.
- Report all suspicious activity to the Police by dialing 911.
