Knitting Beginners & Beyond

Join us for a relaxing  & social environment as you learn the skill of knitting. Learn the two basic stitches –knit and purl, which will allow you to create dozens of designs and then build your stitching repertoire. Casting on and finishing off will also be taught. In the first class you will be guided on types of yarn and needles required for use in the remaining classes. Each participant will provide their own 2 knitting needles and a skein of yarn.

A pattern will be provided. Ages: 12 to Adults

Intermediate Knitting Class

Find that “slipping a stitch” is not always a bad thing! Improve your knitting skills and learn the secrets of more intricate stitches. You will be shown how to manipulate the basic stitches as well as other techniques  to produce patterns such as cables, ripples, and even “holes”. Bring 1 pair of your favorite knitting needles. Scrap yarn will be provided for you to practice the stitches.  Ages: 12 to Adults

E-Z Gardening- Build a Terrarium

Design a beautiful living terrarium to enjoy

indoors all year long. Together with the staff at the Perfect Garden, here in Poquoson, you’ll get all the supplies to plant and create a unique living eco-system.  Decorative materials  including rocks, marbles, and ladybugs will make this an enjoyable and creative class as you design your terrarium.

Build Your Own Container

Herb Garden

Cook with the freshest of herbs, and spices that you have grown in your own container garden. Pick from a variety of plants, and with the expertise of staff from The Perfect Garden you’ll design a beautiful container that grows for your culinary talents all year long. Construct A Decorative Porch Topiary

Using a wire frame with your choice of a turtle or frog stuff it with peat moss and then add plants that are sedums and succulents. This topiary is very friendly for beginners as it requires minimal watering and care for a great look. Participants will select plants, stuff and plant the topiary. This is a one of a kind gardening class at The Perfect Garden  Ages 13 and Up. Date: September 19  Deadline September 12

Spray Painting  (Beginners)

Ages 10 and Up

You will be amazed at this new art form! It’s fast and easy. Students will complete several paintings that are suitable for framing. Spray paint art (also called Aerosolgrafia) is an art form using spray paint, traditionally on poster board, but can be painted on any non porous surface. This is a unique form of art that creates surreal landscapes of planets, comets, pyramids, cities, nature scenes as well as simple one-colored backgrounds. Learn techniques to manipulate the paint on the poster board while it is still wet. Students will employ a variety of tools like sponges, cylinders, brushes, and stencils to add texture and personality to their art. Instructor: Bryan Lopatic

Drawing your Pet 

Ages 13 and Up

This class is designed for beginners to advanced students at any level of experience.  Beginners interested in learning to draw will learn basic fundamentals of drawing & observation. More experienced students will receive instruction focusing on materials of their choice, sharpening skills, techniques, learning to draw fur and other textures.  Bring a picture of your pet to class, more than one picture if you have them. Try and get a photo of them in action, it always makes for an exciting piece of art work. You must have the right materials for this class.

Still Life Drawing Class (Beginners) Ages 13 and Up

A still-life drawing is a picture of inanimate objects that don't move. Often typical commonplace objects like vases, bowls of fruit, bottles etc. The students set up a still-life usually on a flat surface like a table to do a 'study' of the objects. Students will learn textures, shading, and line techniques. You must have the right materials for this class.

Create a true picture of yourself, or someone you know thru the journaling process. Perfect your writing skills for future publication as you learn to write your own life story. Class meets Tuesday evenings for 4 weeks.

The Joy of  Writing Fiction

For Adult Writers

This writer’s studio will be an interactive writing class to develop your skills and your creative process with the ultimate goal  of producing  fictional and fantasy works. Collaborate with your peers as you read, rewrite and strengthen your writing process.  Class meets Tuesday evenings for 4 weeks. June 22, 29, July 13, and 20.  Cost: $40
