Barracuda Swim Team 2009 GPSA City Meet Champs |
|
The Barracuda Swim Team is a competitive summer league swimming experience for youth. Together with other pools on the peninsula throughout Newport News, Hampton, & York County, our Poquoson team is part of the GPSA swim league. This league works together to host a summer swim season for children up to age 18. The swim season will begin with practice June 1, 2010 and run through approximately the second week in August. Practice is held at the Poquoson Municipal Pool. Registration to join the team is now thru June 11, 2010. Meets are scheduled for various days throughout the summer. The team hosts meets as well as travels to other area pools. Transportation is not provided to meets. If your child swims, you will be required to serve in a volunteer capacity throughout the season. This volunteer commitment is required for your child to swim. Team practice times are Monday thru Friday 6-7pm (ages 10 and under) 7-8pm ages 11 and up. Cost is $155 per child. Extra $10.00 for non residents. No multiple child discount. Program #190 All swim team members will receive a pool pass as part of their registration fee. The pool pass is good for the entire summer. No child may come to practice until properly enrolled through Poquoson Parks and Recreation. Team pre-requisite: All swimmers must be able to swim in deep water. All children ages 8 and under wishing to swim must be able to successfully swim at least 25 meters in a defined stroke, continuously. Children age 9 and up must be able to swim a minimum of 50 meters in a defined stroke, and at a technical level that is appropriate for their age. The Head Coach makes this final determination. All children without prior swim team experience must attend the designated evaluation times prior to practicing. More information about swimming requirements, bathing suit, and meet schedule is available at Poquoson Parks and Recreation. In the event that a child is deemed not ready for swim team, a program called “Strive for 25” will be offered to your swimmer. If you choose to participate in “Strive for 25”, information related to this program will be provided following your child’s evaluation. You must attend evaluation prior to Memorial Day to take advantage of “Strive for 25”.
