The Barracuda Swim Team, a program of Poquoson Park and Recreation offers competitive swimming for youth thru age 18. All swimmers must have a minimum swim ability to qualify for the team. Registration for the swim team is in May each year. Our team swims with other pools in the GPSA swim league around the Peninsula. The Barracudas were the 6th place team overall in 2012 at the GPSA swim league championships. This championship hosts over 21 teams from around the Peninsula.
Tentatively for 2013, The Barracuda Swim Team will begin practice at the Poquoson Pool in the evenings starting on the Tuesday, following Memorial Day. The season runs thru August 1 approxiamately. The team hosts meets at the Poquoson Pool as well as travels to other pool within the area on the Peninsula. We anticipate that practices will be held in the evenings from 6-7pm for swimmers ages 10 and under and 7-8pm for swimmers 11 and up.
As a parent of a child on the swim team, it is important to note that it is required that all parents work to support the team. This is primarily done thru volunteer efforts at meets. On average it takes 75 parents to run a home meet successfully. Parents who have children on the team are required to make a service committment as part of membership on the Barracuda Swim Team. Membership Information related to the 2013 Barracudas will be available coming soon.
