Odd Road Community Center: Reservations for Private Users to hold events  at the Odd Road Community Center. Please call 868-3580 for more information. Civic and Community Groups may resume meeting at the Odd Road Community Center. Group meetings and reservations  may have up to 60 people in attendance.  Please call 868-3580 to complete reservations requests. 

Picnic Shelters: Reservations for use of Picnic Shelters for resident use - limit of up to 50 people at any gathering. 

Youth Basketball Programs Winter 2022-

Registration Opens November 17- Do not delay.

All registration will open Wednesday, November 17 at 9am  online, and in person at 830 Poquoson Avenue. 

Programs for youth basketball are as follows:  Click Link to review program details and information for each age group.  These three programs are for residents only due to limited space. 

Be sure to read the details for the program age group fully. Each group is listed here with the available programs.

5-8 year old instructional program.  (Ages determined by age as of 1/1/22)

9-14 Boys and Girls Youth League (Ages determined by age as of 1/1/22)

15-18 3 vs 3 Basketball League (Age determined by age as of 1/1/22)

Program registration will be taken on a first come, first serve basis and may fill quickly, as capacity is limited for all programs in all age groups. Deadline for registration is December 10 or until full-  which ever comes first.  Programs will not be available once full or for a wait-list.No late registration will be accepted.

Letters to Santa- Poquoson is an Official Mailing Station for the North Pole

Hey Kids!  Prepare Your Letters to Santa!Poquoson has been designated as an“Official Mailing Station” for Your Letters to Santa Community Recreation will have 2 Special Mailboxes located in the City to receive Letters:     1 box located at 500 City Hall Avenue and     1 box located at the front door of   830 Poquoson Avenue

Residents: When writing your letter, be sure to include your return address & phone number so the special holiday delivery staff can deliver you a return letter. Santa’s elves will be working hard to create the Nice and Naughty list this year, and we are looking forward to hearing from you.  Some elves may even be visiting our letter writers with a special visit in the City.  Non-residents will receive a return letter via US Mail only.Hey parents: Be sure to include the child’s name legibly, your phone number, and return address so we are able to make arrangements for your return letter.  All letters must be received in mailboxes by Wednesday, December 15 by 6pm.

  City Wide House  and Light Display Decorating Contest

Show us your Christmas Cheer & Light Up Poquoson! The City of Poquoson Office of Community Recreation is challenging residents to show off their holiday spirit for all to see and enjoy this season.Plan now to put out your holiday decorations at your house and enter the:            “Best Decorated House in the City” contest. Starting Tuesday, December 7 judges will be driving throughout the City limits to review the entries. If you want to participate, you will need to submit your house address for consideration by Monday, December 7 by notifying Community Recreation. Register your house online at our registration page.Prizes will be awarded for most creative display, Best in Show and more.Contest guidelines require that all decorations be displayed in the front yard and on houses within the City limits.  Following submissions our Community Recreation will create a map to highlight all of the entries. All entries will be included in the City’s holiday map published on the City of Poquoson website listing where to view decorated homes for all to enjoy.  Let’s all spread cheer in Poquoson and make our City the most festive in all of Hampton Roads.Contest winners will receive a colorful lawn sign announcing their achievement; and other unique gifts as well as official award announcement at the December 13 City Council Meeting.Be sure to put your house on the list for consideration by December 7 by calling 868-3580.It’s easy to enter! Help Us Light Up the City!


(This course will allow you to apply for your concealed carry permit in Virginia)Learn firearms safety, law and familiarization of handguns and ammunition, how to handle a weapon safely, and laws regarding use of firearms in self-defense. This one evening course will cover many do’s and don’ts for carrying a weapon for self-defense.  As part of the course those students who wish to later apply for a concealed handgun permit may take a written test, and upon successful completion of the test,  a certificate will be provided that will allow them to apply for a Virginia Concealed Weapons Permit with the local court. No gun ownership required.   If you have a gun do not bring it to class until the instructor instructs you to do so. Class open to anyone age 21 or older. This course meets one evening.    Time: 6-9:30pm.  Location: Municipal Building  Cost per student: $55 residents/$65 non-residents.  Each course limited to 6 students.  Must register 5 days in advance of the course.  Date:   December 9


Ages 6-13         Students will decorate their   own Gingerbread House! We will provide ALL of the candy and icing for construction! All houses are completely edible so you can make a perfect centerpiece for the holidays! Please note any food allergies with registration. All Gingerbread Houses decorated are taken home. Participants will not share items, &  all participants should be prepared to wear a mask as needed. All work stations will be distanced.  Cost $20 residents/$30 non-residents Must register 5 days in advance.Each class is limited to only 10 participants. Gingerbread House Contest

Enter your gingerbread house in this annual contest sponsored by Poquoson Office of Community Recreation & Poquoson Public Library. Great prizes available. Teams or individuals welcome to enter.Houses may be constructed using base kits. All materials in the construction process must be edible. Candies must be unwrapped. Entries should show originality and creativity. All entries must be dropped off at the Poquoson Public Library by Close of Business  Thursday,December 9, 2021. All entries must have designers name, age, and phone number on the underside of the house. No entry will be accepted without this information.Once the judging is complete, houses will be on display at the Poquoson Public Library starting December 13.  Prizes will be awarded. Winners will be notified at the Library display starting December 13.
