Summer sailing camps will be offered  with a limited number participants.  Each week may only accommodate  6-8 sailors per session depending if there are siblings from the same family group enrolled in camp. All activities for sailing will take place outside. While on land campers will be encouraged to wear a mask, while in boats and sailing campers will not wear masks.  The operations have changed for these camps as a result of health and safety protocols now in place as a result of COVID-19. Please read the information here so you have a full understanding of the operations for summer sailing camp.

Campers will be 1 person per boat, unless there are siblings and they can sail together as necessary. All campers this year must provide their own life jacket.

Operational Schedule and location details New Operations due to COVID-19:
Day 1: 8:45am meet at Poquoson pool promptly for swim test and check in.  Following   completion of a successful Swim Test Parents will then be asked to transport their camper to Messick Point Boat Ramp. Camp will resume at Messick Point Boat Ramp for the remainder of the day and pick up will be at the same location beginning at 1:30pm on Day 1.

Day 2, Day 3, and Day 4: Camp will begin daily at 9am and complete daily at 1:30pm from the Messick Point Boat Ramp.

In an effort to maintain safe social distancing requirements we are unable to provide van transportation to and from Messick Point this summer. All pick ups and drop offs will be done at Messick Point this year. Additionally all participants will be given a health screen/temperature check prior to start and checkin at camp. No parent may leave the parking/drop area until this is complete. If a camper shows sign of illness or has a fever of 100.4 they may not attend camp. There will be no exceptions to this requirement.

Campers should plan to wear a swim suit daily, with plans to get wet each day, as well as pack a lunch and plenty of water and snacks.  Please note that there will be no water cooler provided in an effort to limit germ spread. Campers should bring plenty of water with them each day.

Other Details: During sailing camps all levels of experience are welcome. No prior sailing experience is required. As part of the week’s instruction participants will gain knowledge of boat rigging, basic sailing, water safety & points of sail. Returning Campers: Campers may and are recommended to attend camp more than once, as many skills are practiced & reinforced to grasp the fundamentals with boat and water time.
If you are an experienced sailor, we will ask you to tell us about your experience on your health & waiver form.

Our instructors will modify instruction as needed based on this information. Instruction for experienced sailors will include more advanced boat handling maneuvers and as necessary more advanced equipment. Campers will gain experience on both sunfish as well as other equipment as experience merits. All campers will take a swim test at the start of each camp. Program is led by US Sailing Level 1 instructor. Camps will not exceed 10 campers per week to maintain safe ratio for supervision. Swim Test is required to participate, and will be administered on the first day of camp to ensure campers are proficient swimmers and can be safe in the event of a capsize.

Participant spaces fill  quickly. To reserve a spot a non-refundable deposit of $75 is due at the time of registration. Camp remaining
balance is due 10 days prior to the start of camp.
